From the seller:
A plush original circa 1870’s lady’s deep wine colored silk velvet jacket with self fabric buttons to the front closure, trimmed in pleated silk satin ruffles at the hems and cuffs, piped at the armscyes of the coat sleeves, and with a split tail for a bustle. Lined and stayed. Shown with a lace collar and skirt that are not included. Recently de-accessioned from a New York State museum costume collection with its museum accession numbered tag attached. 16” from shoulder to shoulder, a 34” bust, 24” waist and 22” from shoulder to front hem. In good clean sound as found condition, with light perspiration to the lining of the armscyes, some tiny surface age flaws, let out seams at the sides and the sleeves from the time of construction, some minor button wear, and one restitched buttonhole. All is reflected in the reserve price for this lovely Victorian period jacket.
A “shocking pink” dress and dinner jacket with sequined sleeves, Schiaparelli, 1938.
